looking back

The perspective of the Bowden Archives and Industrial Modernity project was a looking back on a form of life that was fading away in the present and in the process of becoming a history that was disappearing and being forgotten. So I was looking to represent traces of the industrial past, such as the old machinery in and around the Brompton Gas Works.

This looking back is to those industrial traces in the increasingly post-industrial present that remind us of what industrial modernity in Adelaide had been. The traces are largely ruins and the photography is making present what is absent in the form of sensuous images. Photography is part of the world, it should become aware of its attachment to the world and work against the world.
